Patrick Joseph Leggett, 90, a longtime Rhinebeck resident, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY.
Born on May 5, 1927, in New York, NY, he was the son of the late James J. and Rose Ann (McGowan) Leggett. Patrick married Eleanor A. Rasco on June 23, 1956 in Redford, NY and she survives at home in Rhinebeck.
Patrick received his education at Catholic University, Hunter College and Manhattan College. He taught Latin and English for 30 years in the Rhinebeck School District and was an active member of New York State United Teachers (NYSUT). Formerly a member of the De La Salle Christian Brothers Order (Brother Brendan Thomas), he taught for six years in parochial schools.
Patrick was a devoted husband and father who especially loved family gatherings. He had a great appreciation for classical music, opera and the beauty of nature. A longtime communicant of Good Shepherd Church in Rhinebeck, Patrick also volunteered at Northern Dutchess Hospital.
In addition to his loving wife of 61 years, he is survived by his children, Michael Leggett of Oneonta, NY, Christopher Leggett of Rhinebeck, NY, Maureen Nicholson of Rhinebeck, NY, Timothy (Jennifer) Leggett of Stanfordville, NY, and Peter (Maureen) Leggett of Red Hook, NY; his daughter in law, Carmen Leggett of Suffolk, VA; his grandchildren, Brendan, Beatriz, Amaya, Bethany Rose, Christopher, LeighAnne, Ian, and Liam; his great grandchildren; along with extended family and friends.
His son, Kevin Leggett, and a brother, Bernard Leggett, predeceased him.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes in Rhinebeck on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 3 to 7 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 16th, 2018 at Church of the Good Shepherd, Rhinebeck, NY. Fr. Douglas Crawford will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Rhinecliff.
