Bertha M. Nichols

Bertha Nichols, 90, of Rhinebeck, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at her home with her loving family by her side.

Born on November 15, 1927, in Saugerties, NY, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Dorothy (Carle) Vanderbeck. Bertha married George E Nichols on July 12, 1953 at Trinity Church in Saugerties, NY. George survives at home.

In addition to raising her family, Bertha worked for many years as a nurse's aide at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck. She also previously worked at Orchard Hill Farms in Red Hook.

Bertha had a great love of flowers and an affinity for Angels; however, her greatest passion was her family. In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her three sons; George (Regina) R. Nichols of Kingston, NY, John (Elizabeth) T. Nichols of Red Hook, NY and Larry P. Nichols of Saugerties, NY; her grandchildren, Melissa (Richard) Shank of North Tonawanda, NY, Erica Shopland of Ocala, FL, George (Jamie) Nichols of Michigan, Krista (Kyle) Hall of Hartford, CT, Karley (Mark) Nichols of Salt Point, NY, LeAnn Nichols of Stanfordville, NY, and Ryan Nichols of Staatsburg, NY; her step grandchildren, Kristina (Jeremy) Funderburg of Arkansas, and Danielle (Grizz) Tincher of Florida; her daughter in law, Alice (Brian) Sims of Crystal River, FL; nine great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; along with numerous extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by a sister, Rose Salmon; two brothers, Jake Vanderbeck, and Bobby Vanderbeck; and a her longtime friend, Barbara Gall

Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Thursday, January 25th, 2018 from 3-6 PM. Memorial service will be held at 6 pm with the Rev. Luis R. Perez officiating. Interment will be private.

Memorial donations may be made in Bertha's memory to the Hudson Valley Hospice, 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
