Obituary of Henry Younghanse

Henry Budd Younghanse, 86, of Red Hook, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 4, 2017 at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.

 

Born on January 5, 1931, in Rhinebeck, NY, he was the son of the late Harold P. Younghanse and Elizabeth (Kipp) Baxter, stepson to the late James Baxter. Budd married Mary Ann Sullivan at Good Shepherd Church in Brooklyn, NY in 1958 and she survives at home in Red Hook.

 

Budd attended schools in Red Hook and served in the United States Army during the Korean War (1951-1954).

 

He was employed by the East Hudson Parkway Authority, later the New York State Department of Transportation. He retired as General Foreman in 1995 after 40 years of service.

 

Budd also worked for over 30 years at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds.

 

Budd was an active member of both the Red Hook Fire Company and the East Clinton Fire Company. At East Clinton he was Chief for several years. He was a member of the Rescue Squad and attained Life Member status at both companies for his years of service.

 

Budd enjoyed spending time with family, watching sports, specifically the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Budd loved his trips into town to visit friends, with his loving golden retriever Annie by his side.

 

He was a communicant of St. Christopher's Church in Red Hook.

 

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Mary Beth (Dave) O'Meara of Camillus, NY, Kathleen (Bernie) Hart of Louisville, CO, Jean (Jim) Ross of Clinton Corners, NY, and James Budd Younghanse of Rhinebeck, NY; his sister and brother in law, Norma and Tom Lewis of Germantown, NY; his grandchildren Kathleen and Brendan O'Meara, Allison (Alex) Fischer, Aidan and Colin Hart, Jimmy, Carli and Christopher Ross and a great grandchild, Penelope (Poppy) Fischer, along with countless extended family friends, and his fire fighter community.

 

Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Friday, September 8th, 2017 from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM. Red Hook and East Clinton Fire Companies will conduct services at 7:30 pm

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 9th, 2017 at St. Christopher's Church, Red Hook, NY. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Budd's memory to the Red Hook Fire Company, PO Box 100, Red Hook, NY 12571 or the East Clinton Fire Company, Firehouse Lane, Clinton Corners, NY 12514.
