Bridget Theresa Moloney, 84, of Rhinebeck, NY, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at her home. After an active life, she suffered the last few years from the devastating effects of Corticobasal Degeneration, a rare form of Parkinson's. Born on June 7, 1936 at her family's farm in Tully Kyne, County Galway, Ireland, Bridget was one of fifteen children of the late Michael and Mary (Dolan) O'Conner. She loved working on the farm with the animals but decided to immigrate to the United States in 1956, following several of her older sisters who had already moved here. She settled near family in Boston and was set up on a blind date with her future husband, the late John Thomas Moloney, who she married while he was an officer in the U.S. Navy on April 24, 1960. Bridget spent almost all of her long working life in children's clothing stores, first at Guys and Gals in Brockton, MA, and later worked for many years as the manager for the Rugged Bear, a legendary children's clothing store in Boston, MA. She loved being able to provide discounted clothing to her children and grandchildren as well as the children of her many nieces and nephews. She was very family-oriented and was happiest when surrounded by relatives at family gatherings, of which there were many over the years. She adored, and was adored by, her grandchildren, nieces and nephews and their children, remembering their birthdays and attending the milestones in their lives – First Communions, Confirmations, graduations, and weddings. After many years living in Brockton, MA, and then Boston, she moved to Rhinebeck over twenty years ago with her late husband to be nearer to her two beloved granddaughters. She built a new life for herself here after caring for him for years after he was debilitated by a stroke. Bridget was known as an outspoken person with strong opinions who was not afraid to let them be known, often to the delight and sometimes the chagrin of her family and friends. She was renowned for her taste and sense of style, both in her wardrobe and in the interior design of her homes. She was incredibly generous and always willing to lend her family, friends, and neighbors a helping hand. She loved entertaining and welcoming people to her home, and until she became sick, she hosted frequent parties, gatherings, and dinners, and was particularly celebrated for her Saint Patrick's Day parties. She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Moloney of Rhinebeck, NY, and her son, Michael Moloney of Astoria, NY; her loving grandchildren, Willa and Ida Pruitt; several siblings in the Boston area, England, and Ireland; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A Memorial/Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 19 at 3:00 in the Woods Clubhouse in Rhinebeck, NY.
