Obituary of Ruth Milliot

Ruth M. Milliot, 105, of Rhinebeck, NY, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY.

Born on October 22, 1910, in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude (Jacobys) Applebaugh.

Ruth married William Douglas Milliot on Aug. 13, 1949 at Our Lady of Refuge Church in the Bronx, NY & he predeceased her on Oct. 11, 1996.

She was a graduate of Hunter College in NYC & earned her Master's degree in Social Service from Fordham University.

Ruth also has the distinction of serving in the United States Marine Corp as a Staff Sergeant during WW II.

Ruth was employed as a social worker in New York City Department of Social Services, having begun her career in 1934- in what was then known as the city's Emergency Welfare Bureau. At the time of her retirement in 1979, she was a training field supervisor of students of Fordham University Graduate School of Social Services. This program provided the students with field work experience in the Welfare Department.

For many years, she was an active communicant of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Rhinebeck.

Survived by her nieces and nephews, Mary Milliot of Mamaroneck, NY, George Milliot of Rye, NY, Richard (Carol) Applebaugh of Aurora, IL, and John (Dorothy) Milliot of LaGrange, NY, along with numerous grand nieces, nephews, great grand nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Graham Applebaugh.

Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Wednesday, February 24th, 2016 from 2 - 4 & 5:30 - 7 PM.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 25th, 2016 at Church of the Good Shepherd, Rhinebeck, NY. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Rhinebeck Cemetery, Rhinebeck.

Memorial donations may be made in Ruth's memory to the American Diabetes Association, 200 White Plains Rd. Suite 115, Tarrytown, NY 10591.
