Obituary of Rosalee Fratoni

Rosa Lee Shipp Fratoni, age 96, of Rhinebeck, New York, passed away on February 14, 2017 at the Baptist Home at Brookmeade in Rhinebeck with members of her family at her bedside. She was born in Washington D.C. on Easter morning March 27, 1921 to Robert Fairfax Shipp and Ruth Hunt. She is a graduate of Springfield (Missouri) High School and of the Missouri Baptist Hospital (St. Louis) Nursing Class of December 1943. She married Salvatore Sam Fratoni (who predeceased her in 2005) on September 29, 1945 in Pasco, Washington and they raised their four children in Endicott and Kingston, New York.

Rosalee (or Rose as she was known in the community) had a long career as a Registered Nurse including wartime service at the Army Infirmary in Pasco, Washington and later at Kingston Hospital, the Ulster County Infirmary, and the Baptist Home at Brookmeade. She attended the Reformed Church of the Comforter in Kingston where she was a leader for both the Girl Scouts and the Comforter Youth Fellowship as well as a member of the Ladies-Aide Society and other church activities. After her retirement and move to Rhinebeck, she was Director of Volunteers at the Baptist Home at Brookmeade and, with her husband, participated in service projects in many foreign countries through the Work & Witness Program. Rose will always be remembered for her love of her family and the youth in the community and through the compassion she bestowed to those in her medical care. She will always be present in the many knitting, crocheting, and ceramic creations which brought her so much relaxation and joy.
