Obituary of Cheryl Davis

DAVIS-NOE, Cheryl Linda Chevins, 67, of Rhinebeck, NY, died Thursday, October 5th, 2017 surrounded by family at home in Rhinebeck, NY following a short battle with cancer. Cheryl was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 8, 1950, the daughter of the late Anthony C. and Margaret (Macy) Chevins. She grew up in Norwalk and North Stamford, CT and attended secondary school at The Low Heywood School in Stamford. She graduated a year early, in 1967. Cheryl then attended Wellesley College from 1967-68 and following some time off, she graduated with a B.A. in Economics from Bard College in 1973.

Dutchess County NY remained her home base for the rest of her adult life. She married Bradley P. Davis, of Hopewell Junction, NY in 1977. They welcomed a daughter, Jennifer Davis, into the world on Oct. 28, 1977.

Cheryl worked as an Assistant to Dean of Students at Bard College, a Ski Instructor at Hunter Mountain, and subsequently as a paralegal in Poughkeepsie, NY. She applied for admission to University of Miami Law School and was accepted in 1988. After a year, she transferred to Yale University Law School and received her J.D. from Yale on June 4th, 1991. After graduation, she worked first for Weil, Gotshal & Manges, then Shearman and Sterling, Morgan Stanley, and finally for AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company as Vice President and Counsel in New York City. She became an accomplished Employee Benefits/ERISA Attorney, and was seated on many advisory committees. She retired from AXA in 2010.

In 1991, she married Jeffrey Noe at the Church of the Messiah in Rhinebeck, NY. They spent most of their 26 years of marriage living in Rhinebeck. Cheryl loved skiing, hiking, playing softball and golf, singing in the church choir, attending ballet performances and concerts, traveling the world, working in her garden, photographing nature, painting with water colors, reading literature, studying history and science, participating in lively debates, and enjoying time with her friends, family, Husband, and dogs.

In addition to her parents, Cheryl was predeceased by her sister Cynthia Chevins. Cheryl is survived by her daughter Jennifer Davis, her husband Jeffrey Noe, her stepdaughter Chelsea Noe, her niece Corinna Lander, her nephews Travis and Garrett Lander, and her brother Christopher Chevins, along with extended family and friends. She will be profoundly missed.

A Memorial Service honoring Cheryl's life will be held at the Church of the Messiah - 6436 Montgomery St, Rhinebeck, NY on Saturday Nov. 4th, 2017 at 1pm. A pot luck reception for friends and family will follow in the church hall.
