Wednesday, September 19, 2018Jim will always be in my heart as a friend and cohort at our beloved Aerodrome. We had many laughs together and this is something we all need once in a while. “I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.” ― Stephen Grellet Jim gave all of himself to all of us all through all of his life. I am a better person because of him. Till we meet again.

Wednesday, September 19, 2018To all the Hare Family- Melina, Nika Simone and I send our deepest heart felt sympathy to you all. Truly sad time to know your dear sweet husband and father to your children has passed into heaven. I did not know him, other than the sporting events of Catherine’s Middle and High School years. I did know you Mary and Catherine and knew of the Hare family and hearing Stories through Yvonne. I know that he was a fabulous husband and Father. I heard that repeatedly!!! I know of his sweet nature and strong community ties. This is a huge loss to your family and the local area on so many levels. Reading his life story, I am so impressed by all he did and the lives he touched. What an admirable and great life he had - not to mention an amazing example to your children. Everyone would want a Dad like Jim!!! I know my words will not make much of a difference, but please know that our hearts ache for you and we do feel the sadness for your whole family. May Jim be at peace and always be there forever watching over you. Love and peace- Alison Roland, Nika and Melina MacFarlane

Wednesday, September 19, 2018Sending my condolences to Jim's family. I was a member of the ORA ground crew from 1995 thru 1999, and knowing Jim was one of the highlights of those times at Old Rhinebeck. He always made me feel one of the family down their and he was sincere in those actions! I will always remember him up in the announcers tower and hearing his voice no matter where you were on the aerodrome. The last time that I talked to him was at the memorial service at the aerodrome for Bill King a few years back... Jim gave me a big bear hug and greeted me as an old good friend, something I will always cherish. The world in general, and those who knew him in particular are much better off due to knowing Jim. He will always be a part of "The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome", and for that we can all be truly thankful!! May Jim always have: Clear Skies, Strong Tailwinds & Happy Landings.

Tuesday, September 18, 2018Dearest Mary, Although I was at the Aerodrome when Jim was (was there ever a time when he wasn't?), we only met a couple of times - thru you...way back in the day :-). Reading Jim's obituary and watching the video gave me a glorious picture of this beautiful human you had the gift of calling husband. What a magnificent life ! I can see that Jim was a man of heart, integrity, passion and love. I wish for you moments of peace and solace as you move through this time my Red Hook friend. I am sending you very much love and lifting you and your beautiful children up in prayer. There are no happy endings. Endings are the saddest part, so just give me a happy middle and a very happy start. -shel silverstein Pam

Monday, September 17, 2018Through the “Palin magic”, my wife and I quickly became repeat spectators at ORA starting on October 26, 1980. I think I first met Jim early in the 1982 season. I’m sure it was when I jumped in to lend a hand putting aircraft away after the show. Most likely Jim was telling me where to push on the aeroplane and to “watch the wingtips”. Before long, Jim was teaching me to be a German Henchman and how to drive antique cars. Jim taught me how to how to play on an airfield safely while taking pictures and how to catch aeroplanes without getting hurt. He also taught me how to keep the audience entertained even when things didn’t quite go as planned. He taught me how to interact with the crowd at the fence line after the show. All this was learned by watching Jim be a henchman himself, several years before he took over the announcing role at ORA. I was privileged to be up in the tower with Jim on numerous occasions videotaping entire shows from his vantage point. As an announcer, his fluid style both entertained and educated the audience about the various aeroplanes and their part in history without making you feel like you are in “school”. I was always amazed to hear just how far his historical knowledge extended during the inevitable slow spots of the show. Jim was a true mentor whose legacy will continue through the many generations who have, and will, come to the Aerodrome. His natural comedic talent always brought a smile to our faces. Jim has been a guiding light at the Aerodrome for more than 35 years and he will be missed – and remembered for years to come. My condolences go out to you Mary and your whole family for a huge loss in your lives.

Saturday, September 15, 2018What a beautiful obituary to capture Jim’s essence... Jim was always such a loving, fun man with a heart of gold he shared with so so many. I remember going to the Aerodrome to see him in the shows as a child and how he loved flying and the magic of the Aerodrome. How Jim loved Mary and Mary loved Jim. The love and laughter they shared with Anner & Danner, DP, Kevro, Timmy, Patrick & Laura, Kathleen & Russ, Bobby, their children and so many friends in our community. I can only imagine how Jim’s personality will be missed from the Hare family’s future events - May they feel his spirit and love surround them the rest of their days. May the thought of Jim flying high bring comfort to his loved ones and may the many wonderful memories bring smiles in the years to come. Rest In Peace while Flying High sweet Jim! Thank you for leaving your mark on so so many, including me XOXO
