Sunday, November 10, 2019Pete McMahon was such an inspiring teacher..... my two kids loved his classes, and respected immensely his academic standards and his effortless command of his subject and his students. Any school district would have been proud to have him, but we in Red Hook were the lucky winners. Rest in peace, Pete. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. Caroline Rider

Thursday, October 17, 2019My friend Pete taught me a great deal about the field of education, New York politics, and life in general. He was a lifelong Republican and I, a lifelong Democrat. We worked well together lobbying for a cause we both loved: public education. He was a fine man and I will miss him. Our world is diminished by his passing.

Wednesday, October 16, 2019To whom it may concern, I am a 1977 graduate of Red Hook High School. I had the honor of being one of Mr. McMahon's students and I was also a member of his golf teams from 1974-1977. Peter was warm, intelligent and very caring. He had a way about him that very few educators have. In my humble opinion, they should make a blueprint of his teaching methods and have each and every educator follow them to the letter. Beyond his ability as a teacher, he was also a very fine coach. We absolutely loved this man on the golf team. And I feel that he was instrumental in coach Chando's success. As a JV basketball coach he built the foundation of the successful varsity teams. Men of his kind don't come along very often. In closing, I send my deepest condolences to his family. I hope you know how positively he effected his students and players. RIP Mr. McMahon. Sincerely yours, Richard Cole 1977

Wednesday, October 16, 2019I was s student of Mr. McMahon in the early 90's, he was my absolute favorite teacher. He always took the time to talk to us and not just teach us. He was one of those teaches that saw the potential in someone and helped them see it for themselves. He was the reason I went to college and got a BS in Biology and then spent many years working in research laboratories. I had always hoped I could tell him how much his kindness meant to me and how he had influenced my life. He will be missed.

Monday, October 14, 2019I remember Mr. McMahon as a great science teacher. He really listened - I remember him more as having conversations with us and less standing at the board talking at us. Though I did not pursue science as a career (not had any particular aptitude for it), I remember him as someone to whom my natural science talent didn’t really matter. He was a wonderful role model. Thank you, Mr. McMahon.

Monday, October 14, 2019Peter was an amazingly intelligent, capable and energetic teacher, colleague and friend! His service to the Red Hook Central School community, its faculty and its students is legendary. He served as The Faculty Association president for 21 years and negotiated numerous contractual benefits for the teachers of the District. We are all in his debt and grateful for his dedication and determination to serve Red Hook's students and their teachers. He will be sorely missed! Eleanor Friery
