Victoria McCarthy

Obituary of Victoria G. McCarthy

Victoria Grace McCarthy, “Tori,” 33 of Red Hook, NY was sadly taken away from us the morning of September 23 in the loving company of her sisters Erin and Amber and the love of her life Terrence Boyer.

On September 29, 1987, in Sharon, CT a beacon of brilliant light was born into the world. In her time on Earth Tori was able to touch the lives of everyone who had the pleasure to meet her. Her warmth, humor, and radiant positivity served as an inspiration for all who knew her. No matter her own circumstances, Tori always had a word of encouragement or a hug for anyone who needed one; she knew exactly what to say to make you feel seen, accepted, and loved without exception.

She first took the stage in Red Hook High School (Class of 2005) where she fell in love with theater and with each production, she grew confidently in the direction of her talents, cultivating her brilliance with each new opportunity to shine.  Over the years she acted, directed, and designed sets for numerous plays throughout the Hudson Valley as well as doing her amazing best, despite her doubts, at dance and choreography. While The Rhinebeck Center for Performing Arts was her home base Tori’s resume included such venues as The Phoenicia Playhouse, Just Off Broadway, and ACT of Westchester.  She especially loved her work with Kids on Stage and with the students of Onteora High School. It was through this love for theater she would stumble upon and discover her true love. It was Summer of 2013, on the set of Grease, with Terrence, a young gentleman who had never dreamed of doing theater, but in doing so would find the love of his dreams as well.

Through many hard-fought attempts at Broadway auditions, she cared for many family’s children as a loving nanny in NYC. Thereafter, Tori worked in the service industry for many years and enjoyed every opportunity to entertain and take care of others. She was known for making the best margaritas and craft cocktails around. In addition to hospitality and theater, Tori became especially passionate about health and fitness. As a personal trainer at Sport of Iron in Kingston, NY, Tori was dedicated to helping others overcome any obstacles to realize their potential and achieve their goals.  In 2018, Tori fell in love with power lifting and both competed and coached on the National Circuit. Tori stood as a living example of healthy competition always striving to reach a new personal best and eventually would accomplish being a licensed powerlifting judge. Also, an ordained minister to bring together in marriage her closest childhood friend Erika Hobson, and her precious love Spencer Lynds in this recent Summer of 2021.

Tori ‘flexed’ on cancer full force with a grace, courage, and tenacity that inspires us all. She was one of a kind: beautiful, compassionate, smart, funny, generous... Words fail when trying to articulate the stunning beauty that is, Victoria Grace McCarthy. To say she made the world a better place is quite possibly the understatement of all time. She entered everyone’s life like a candle-- casting out the darkness. Anyone who was fortunate enough to talk to Tori, for even the briefest moment, knew by the end of that conversation they had made a friend for life.

Throughout these past months Tori inspired and encouraged her fellow cancer warriors at Albany Medical Center and was playfully dubbed “The Mayor” of D4 East. She walked literal miles around that short loop and would drop in on any fellow patients with an open door and a need for her kind energy. Please stay strong all of you, Carl, Carol, Rose, Meg, Marjory, Judy. For anyone lucky enough to ring the bell signifying the end of cancer or their treatment, Tori was their cheerleader, their photographer, their confidante and counselor. She looked forward to meeting all her new friends outside those walls. Tori, faithfully and without ceasing, made herself available to others for emotional support and encouragement regardless of her own circumstances.  She was the best friend a person could have.

She is survived by her soulmate Terrence Boyer, her sisters: Tommy, Erin, and Amber, nieces Ellie and Freya, her Aunt Shirley, Uncle Craig, Grandpa Gerry, Momma Whit, Jessica Boyer, and Kyle Steen.

Tori was pre-deceased by her grandma Carol, her best little pups Chez and Otis,   and her beloved mother and father Christine and Steve Poisman.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Tori’s honor can be made to the ‘Be The Match Foundation’ at BeTheMatch.org, as well as becoming regular blood donors.
