Obituary of Harold E Coons

Harold E Coons, 75, of Red Hook, NY, passed away peacefully from complications associated with Parkinson's disease on Sunday, September 26, 2021 with his loving wife by his side. Born on June 7th, 1946, in Catskill, NY, he was the son of the late George and Helen (Tripp) Coons. His wife Judy (Morabito) Coons, with whom he married on July 4, 1970 in Smithfield, NY, survives Harold. Also surviving are his brother, Henry Coons and his wife Sigrid of Catskill, NY, his sister Kathryn Katt of Rapid River, MI, along with his beloved nieces and nephews, several sisters-in law, brothers in law, extended family, and friends. Harold graduated from Catskill High School and SUNY Fredonia with a Master's Degree in Music. During his years at Fredonia, he performed with both the Erie and Buffalo Philharmonic as a percussionist. For many years, and until his retirement, Harold was the owner and operator of his painting contracting company. Working in numerous homes and businesses throughout the Hudson Valley. Always active, Harold was a 53 year Mason- belonging to Hendrick Hudson Mason Lodge 875 in Red Hook and also the Rip Van Winkle (Catskill) Lodge 468, now of Cairo, NY. As well as being a Past Master of Catskill Lodge 468 and Hendrick Hudson Lodge, he became the Assistant Grand Lecturer of the Greene-Ulster Masonic District, and later was Assistant Grand Lecturer of the Hudson-Champlain Region. Harold also belonged to the Mountain Star Oasis Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. His true passions were hunting, fishing, outdoor recreation and Masonry. It was not uncommon to find him cooking or assisting with lodge dinners and with rod and gun functions- including the Dutchess County Fair's wildlife exhibit. He was a member of the Northern Dutchess Rod and Gun Club and past president of the Federation of Dutchess County Fish and Game Clubs. Harold served his community as a Town of Milan Councilman for several years. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes, Red Hook on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 4 to 7 pm. Hendrick Hudson Lodge #875 Free & Accepted Masons of Red Hook, NY will conduct services at 7 pm. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 AM on Thursday, September 30th, 2021 at Burnett & White Funeral Homes, Red Hook, NY. Rev. Frank L. Cirone will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Pine Plains. Memorial donations may be made in Harold's memory to the Hendrick Hudson Lodge #875 Free & Accepted Masons, 9 Graves St, Red Hook, NY 12571, or to the Masonic Research Lab, or to the Masonic Care Community in Utica, NY.
