Emily Gorsuch

Obituary of Emily Gorsuch

Emily (Neenie) Gorsuch, 78, of Red Hook, NY, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, September 29th, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. On July 14, 1943, in Williamsburg, PA, a spunky, outspoken, and loving soul was born to James and Eva Roush. After the death of her mother as a toddler, Emily was given the gift of a lifetime in her second mother, Jeannette Roush. Emily married her high school sweetheart, Tom, on June 30, 1961. In their 60 years together, their love created a large family that was her pride and joy. She had the unique ability to love each member of her family completely with an all-consuming love making each one feel they were the most important person in her life. In addition to a great love for her family, Emily generously shared her love with many dear friends. Her loving, open nature meant that she never met a stranger. To know her was truly to love her. In addition to lavishing her love on her family, she was unapologetic in her love for her Lord Jesus Christ and shared that love with anyone willing to listen. She especially cherished her time teaching children in Good News Clubs, AWANA, and Sunday School. This summer she was able to realize her goal to teach one more bible inspired lesson to many of her great grandchildren during a family camping trip. Emily was a bustle of activity with many irons in the fire at any time. In addition to her work as a postal carrier with the Red Hook Post Office until her retirement in 2007, Emily had numerous hobbies. She was an avid reader and enjoyed studying God's Word. Her love of and collection of books was matched only by her desire to share them with others. Her substantial personal library was treasured. She spent much time encouraging friends with letters, cards, calls, and texts. She believed deeply in the power of prayer and considered it a privilege to pray for her family and friends daily. Emily was never as happy as when her family was gathered around her; whether enjoying a family meal, on a camping trip, creating craft projects, or simply sharing memories. Emily most recently enjoyed spending time at the Hudson River and the peace that the environment provided. She is survived by many who adore her; her husband, Thomas Gorsuch; her children, Francine Rivenburgh of Livingston, NY, Chris (Dorene) Gorsuch of Mechanicsburg, PA, Stephen (Christine) Gorsuch of Wappingers, NY, Beth (Bryan) Anspach of Tivoli, NY, and Carmen Franklin of Mount Marion, NY; her siblings, Darlene Jackson, Nancy Luke, Bob Roush, Susan Blough, and Terry Roush; her grandchildren, Emily, Heidi, Jesse, Nathan, Shane, Pammy, Jacob, Katie-Beth, Abby, Lexi, Micah, & Jaedon; and fifteen great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Her parents, James, Eva, and Jeannette, sister, Sharon Roush, and brother, Bill Lloyd, predeceased her.
